Clyde Walters, a four-star prospect and top-100 talent in the Class of 2027, announced his commitment to the Providence Friars on Tuesday, pledging to join the program for the 2026-27 season. His decision follows a standout sophomore campaign in which he helped his team to a 28-5 record at the Chipotle Nationals and posted averages of 19.9 points, 8.0 rebounds and 1.8 steals over 12 games this spring.
A New Era for the Friars
Walters has already shown his scoring ability, reaching the 20-point mark on six occasions and pulling down double-digit rebounds in three games, while also contributing 1.8 steals per contest. He will be joined by fellow freshmen Dink Pate, a three-year G League veteran, and Leonardo Marangon, an overseas newcomer from Italy, as well as returning junior Ryan Mela and point guard Gavin Hightower, who followed Coach Bryan Hodgson from South Florida.
Coach Hodgson and his staff are shaping a revamped roster that will feature eight transfers and a blend of domestic and international talent. The Friars are targeting front-court players such as Moussa Kamissoko, Dylan Jones, Asa Montgomery, Yann Kamagate and Zion Green, while also pursuing guards Antonio Pemberton, Baboucarr Ann, Chase Lumpkin, Jordan Page, Cayden Daughtry and Nasir Anderson.
Strategic Moves on the Court
The upcoming season presents an opportunity for the Friars to blend youthful energy with experienced pieces, aiming to climb the conference standings and contend for postseason play. With a recruiting class that includes top prospects and a coaching staff focused on the Class of 2027, Providence looks to build on recent progress and establish a competitive future.
