Eriksen Collapses in Friendly Against Ukraine
Christian Eriksen collapsed during a friendly match between Denmark and Ukraine, the incident occurring in the early stages of play. Medics rushed onto the pitch, and the player was quickly attended to before regaining consciousness.
The match was immediately called off, and Eriksen was escorted to an ambulance on his own feet. He was then taken to a nearby hospital for further evaluation.
A Look Back at His 2021 Cardiac Episode
Eriksen’s medical history adds a layer of urgency: he suffered a cardiac arrest during the 2021 European Championship and was fitted with an Implantable Cardioverter‑Defibrillator (ICD). Since that incident, he has been using a heart‑starting device and managed to resume professional competition in 2022.
Morten Boesen, the Danish national team coach, was present on the sidelines and coordinated the emergency response alongside the medical staff. The Danish Football Federation confirmed that the midfielder is doing well under the circumstances, but emphasized that he will undergo a full medical examination to determine the cause of the episode.
The friendly was part of a series of preparatory games, but neither Denmark nor Ukraine had secured a spot in this year’s World Cup, making the match largely a test of fitness rather than a competitive showdown.
