Kansas State University’s football program announced a major recruiting victory as four‑star prospect Cooper Ohnmacht confirmed his commitment to the Wildcats on Sunday. The 6‑foot‑3, 215‑pound athlete, ranked as the top player in Kansas for the 2027 class, selected K‑State over a field that included Penn State, Wisconsin and several other powerhouse programs.
A Dual‑Sport Phenomenon
Ohnmacht brings a rare blend of size and speed to Manhattan. In his junior season he recorded 52 receptions for 755 yards and added 57 tackles with five interceptions on defense, while also excelling in track and field. His triple jump of 48‑3 during the 2025 season stood as the best all‑class mark, earning him a 14th‑place finish at the Nike Outdoor Championships in Eugene, Oregon.
Ranked No. 304 nationally and tenth among the 2027 athletes, Ohnmacht’s versatility as a safety and wide receiver, coupled with his track accolades, made him a coveted prize. His decision marks the third time since 2023 that Kansas’ top recruit has elected to stay in state, following the high‑profile commitments of Avery Johnson in 2023 and Gus Hawkins last year.
Coach Collin Klein and his staff have now assembled 17 pledges in the 2027 class, a group that sits 40th nationally and ranks fourth within the Big 12. The haul also includes top‑200 tackle Gus Hawkins, 50‑ranked recruit Linkon Cure, and Correll Buckhalter Jr., son of former Nebraska standout Correll Buckhalter.
The commitment not only bolsters the Wildcats’ on‑field prospects but also signals a sustained recruiting resurgence that could reshape the program’s trajectory in the coming years.
