A Legacy Reborn
Charles Clark, a former standout player for the Clarksville Wildcats and longtime assistant under longtime mentor Ted Young, has been named the new head coach of the boys basketball program.
Clark’s journey in the program spans more than two decades, from his early days as a player in the late 1990s to his recent role guiding the girls’ team at Clarksville Academy to a 106‑65 record over six seasons.
Speaking about the upcoming season, Clark emphasized the school’s deep community roots, noting that the Wildcats have long been a focal point of local pride and that he intends to lean on that support as he builds a cohesive unit.
The roster he inherits features a solid senior nucleus, including guards Thomas King and Lawson Phillips and post player Isaac Thornhill, giving the new coach a promising foundation for his first year.
With Ted Young retiring after 27 seasons, Clark steps into a legacy‑rich environment, bringing his own coaching philosophy and a vision to make the Wildcats a central pillar of Clarksville’s athletic identity.
The team finished the 2023‑24 season with a 10‑14 record and has struggled to break above third place in the district since 2022, but Clark believes the combination of experienced seniors and community enthusiasm can turn the tide.
His plan includes outreach to local families, youth programs and alumni networks, aiming to weave the program more tightly into the fabric of Clarksville life.
