Hoosiers bring top edge rusher Myles Smith to campus
Indiana University is opening its doors to Myles Smith, a four‑star edge rusher from Farmington, Michigan, for an official visit this weekend. The visit comes as the Hoosiers look to bolster a defensive line that has shown flashes of promise but still seeks a dominant pass‑rusher.
Smith, who tallied 85 tackles, 14 tackles for loss, six sacks and four forced fumbles during his junior season, earned Michigan All‑State honors from several prestigious publications. Those numbers have made him one of the most coveted defensive prospects in the 2026 class.
While Smith is still weighing his options, he has listed Indiana alongside Michigan State, Missouri, Kentucky and Michigan as his top five schools. Indiana’s defensive ends coach, Buddha Williams, has been the primary recruiter, guiding Smith through the process since the Hoosiers first offered him last fall.
The timing of the visit is significant. It follows Smith’s earlier trip to Bloomington when the staff extended a scholarship, and it provides an opportunity for the coaching staff to showcase the program’s defensive scheme and facilities. Smith’s interest in Indiana reflects a broader trend of Mid‑western programs making inroads with top talent from the state of Michigan.
Indiana’s defensive front already features edge rushers Mikail Kamara and Stephen Daley, both of whom have contributed significantly to the team’s pass‑rush efforts. Adding Smith would not only deepen the rotation but also signal a strategic shift toward a more aggressive front seven as the Hoosiers aim to climb the Big Ten standings.
