Brian Mistro, a University of Jamestown alumnus and former team captain, has been appointed the school's new Athletic Director, bringing a deep personal connection and a clear vision for the future of Jimmie athletics.
A New Era for Jimmie Athletics
His return coincides with the reappointment of Tom Dosch as head coach of the Jimmie Football program, a move that reunites two figures who have long shaped the university's sports landscape.
Mistro’s playing days from 2005 to 2008 saw him lead the team on the field, and after earning a Master of Science in Education from Northern State University in 2012, he spent six years as an assistant at Concordia College in Moorhead, Minnesota, before pursuing a Doctor of Leadership degree at UJ.
He will succeed Austin Hieb, who is moving to South Dakota State University as Deputy Athletic Director, ensuring a smooth transition for the department.
University President Dr. Polly Peterson highlighted Mistro’s passion and commitment, stating that his leadership aligns tightly with the institution’s mission and the aspirations of its athletic programs.
Dosch, who guided the team from 2004 to 2007, oversaw one of the most successful eras in Jimmie Football history, compiling 53 wins and earning NSIC Coach of the Year honors in 2014.
Both Mistro and Dosch expressed enthusiasm for continuing the university’s tradition of excellence, emphasizing collaboration with students, alumni, and the broader community.
The appointments reflect a strategic effort to blend institutional knowledge with fresh leadership, positioning the university for sustained growth in its athletic conferences and student‑athlete experiences.
