A Strategic Addition to UConn's Coaching Roster
UConn's men's basketball program announced Tuesday that Mike Pegues will join the staff as an assistant coach, stepping into the role vacated by Luke Murray, who departed for a head‑coaching position at Boston College.
Pegues brings a decade‑long track record of player development, having worked alongside Murray at Louisville, Xavier and Butler, and earning a reputation for honing the talents of interior players.
His recruiting network in the Washington, D.C., Maryland and Virginia corridor is expected to bolster UConn's efforts to attract top talent, a factor that could prove decisive as the Huskies welcome three new big men to the roster this season.
Beyond his recruiting acumen, Pegues is celebrated for his ability to shape raw post players into fundamentally sound big men, a skill set that aligns with the team's strategic focus under head coach Dan Hurley.
The move also preserves continuity within the program, with associate head coach Kimani Young and first‑year assistant Mike Nardi remaining in their roles, ensuring a seamless transition as the new coaching staff settles in.
