A deadly match turns fatal
On the afternoon of April 19, a soccer match at Stitzel Field on Lincoln Avenue in Poughkeepsie turned violent when gunfire erupted, striking two spectators.
One of the victims, 46‑year‑old Carl Chambers of Marlboro, was pronounced dead after being taken to hospital, while a second individual survived after receiving emergency care.
Investigators recovered three distinct firearms at the scene, including a high‑powered rifle, indicating a deliberate and dangerous attack.
Coordinated law‑enforcement response
The arrests were accomplished through a coordinated effort involving the Poughkeepsie SWAT Team, the U.S. Marshals Service, the FBI Safe Streets Task Force, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office, the Dutchess County District Attorney’s Office, and the City of Poughkeepsie Police Department.
Authorities continue to seek any additional information from the public and have urged anyone with knowledge of the incident to contact the City of Poughkeepsie Police Department.
