The Swift Current Broncos announced a blockbuster move on Tuesday, bringing defenceman Kayd Ruedig back to the organization in exchange for a first‑round pick in the 2026 CHL Import Draft.
A Calculated Upgrade for the Broncos
Ruedig, a 6‑foot blueliner who spent the 2025‑26 campaign splitting time with the Portland Winterhawks, Kamloops Blazers and Everett Silvertips, posted 16 goals and 20 assists for 36 points in 66 regular‑season games.
His impact was most evident in the playoffs, where he contributed two goals and four assists in 17 games, helping Everett capture the WHL Championship and later adding a goal and two assists at the Memorial Cup.
The trade also marks a homecoming for Ruedig, who began his major‑junior career with the Swift Current Legionnaires AAA program during the 2023‑24 season and served as an alternate captain before moving on to the WHL.
General manager and head coach Travis Crickard said he is thrilled to welcome Ruedig back, noting that the player’s mobility, transition offense and playoff pedigree will bolster the Broncos’ blue line.
