A Fresh Face for the Friars
Providence College has confirmed the signing of Blake Zielinski to its men's hockey program for the 2026‑27 season, adding a dynamic forward who has already made waves in the United States Hockey League.
Hailing from Berlin, New Jersey, Zielinski concluded his second year with the Des Moines Buccaneers, where he posted 55 points and averaged 1.04 points per game, a rate that placed him among the league’s most productive players.
His performance earned him a spot in the 2026 NHL Scouting Combine in Buffalo and helped secure a No. 51 ranking among North American skaters for the upcoming draft, underscoring his status as a top prospect.
International play has also defined his early career; he was a key member of the U.S. squad that captured championships at both the 2025 World Junior A Challenge and the 2025 Hlinka Gretzky Cup, the latter of which he led in scoring with nine points.
The accolades continued with a selection to the 2026 All‑USHL Third Team and a placement on the 2025 USHL All‑Rookie Second Team, followed by the prestigious Gaudreau Award, which recognizes not only on‑ice excellence but also character and leadership.
Providence’s coaching staff highlighted the blend of skill, work ethic and community spirit that Zielinski brings, noting that his arrival aligns with the program’s ongoing push to compete at the highest level of collegiate hockey.
The addition of a player with such a diverse résumé — from New Jersey to the USHL, from the NHL Combine to world‑stage championships — offers the Friars a versatile weapon as they look to strengthen their roster ahead of the next season.
Fans can anticipate a competitive edge as the team integrates Zielinski’s offensive instincts with the program’s tradition of development, a move that could prove pivotal in the pursuit of conference titles and national contention.
