Western Michigan University announced this week that Manny Patterson has been appointed Director of Player Development for its men's basketball program, a move that brings a blend of professional playing experience and coaching acumen to the Broncos.
A career built on European courts and Midwest roots
Patterson's basketball journey began in Chicago, where he starred at Francis W. Parker High School before embarking on a professional playing career that spanned Finland, Austria, Spain and Sweden. The Chicago native also captured five seasons of college basketball, starting at Green Bay and concluding his eligibility at Southeast Missouri State.
During his two seasons at Francis W. Parker High School, Patterson helped develop three All-Conference selections and the ISL Player of the Year, while also running the MP Skills Academy that has become a fixture in the local basketball community.
Connections that bridge continents
At Southeast Missouri State, Patterson played under current WMU assistant coach Dustin Yoder, forging a relationship that would later influence his return to the Midwestern scene. He graduated from the university in 2021, marking the end of a five‑year collegiate tenure that blended Midwestern grit with international exposure.
