The Kansas Jayhawks saw their NCAA super regional dreams evaporate on Saturday night, as Oklahoma’s Sooners completed a sweep with a 13‑2 victory that ended the Jayhawks’ season.
A Season Defined by Excellence
The team had capped a remarkable year by capturing both the Big 12 regular‑season title and the conference tournament, earning the right to host the Lawrence Regional and to open the super regional on its own diamond.
From the outset, Oklahoma’s pitching staff proved relentless, limiting Kansas to just three runs over two games while racking up 21 hits of its own. The Sooners’ offense answered back with a burst of power that left the Jayhawks scrambling for answers.
Coach Dan Fitzgerald, who took the helm in 2023 and quickly raised the program’s expectations, praised the effort of his players despite the outcome. “We gave everything we had,” he said, “and while the result isn’t what we wanted, the character we showed will lay the foundation for what comes next.”
The loss marks the second straight year the Jayhawks have exited the super regional after a promising run, but the program’s recent surge in talent and recruiting suggests that a return to the national stage may be only a matter of time.
