Delta Air Lines announced this week that it will increase its presence at Green Bay's Austin Straubel International Airport ahead of the upcoming NFL season. The carrier will introduce new flights and boost aircraft capacity on services originating in Atlanta, Detroit, Boston, Minneapolis and Buffalo, with return itineraries scheduled to match game days.
Airport Director Marty Piette emphasized the growing appetite for travel to Green Bay, noting that the city's football culture has become a major driver of regional air traffic. "The demand to visit Green Bay is growing, and Delta's increased capacity allows us to meet that demand," Piette said in a statement.
Building on Earlier Expansions
The latest additions follow a series of nonstop routes that Delta launched earlier this year from LaGuardia Airport in New York City and Reagan National Airport in Arlington, Virginia. Those earlier services already demonstrated the airline's willingness to align its schedule with the travel patterns of sports enthusiasts.
Special flight packages tied to key NFL matchups will enable fans to journey directly to Green Bay alongside the team's supporters, reducing the need for connecting flights and streamlining access to Lambeau Field. This focused approach reflects a broader trend among carriers to tailor services around major sporting events.
Beyond the immediate benefit to Packers fans, the expanded schedule is expected to generate ancillary economic activity for the Green Bay region, including hotel occupancy and local hospitality services.
