Jonathan Harris, a 3‑star defensive back out of Brother Rice High School in Illinois, has officially pledged to the Iowa Hawkeyes, becoming the second defensive back to commit to the program’s 2027 recruiting class.
A Boost for the Hawkeyes' Defense
Harris chose Iowa over a slate of offers that included Sacramento State, Missouri State, Western Illinois, Butler and Chicago State, and he was a key member of Brother Rice’s Class 7A state championship team in 2025.
The commitment follows closely on the heels of defensive lineman Bariyus Allen from Belmont High School in Ohio, who announced his own pledge to Iowa the previous day, underscoring a rapid surge of Midwest talent toward the program.
Jake Thies, a fellow defensive back from Fenwick High School, had already committed earlier in the cycle, giving Iowa three confirmed members of the 2027 defensive cohort.
Both players highlighted the coaching staff’s vision and the chance to contribute early as factors in their decisions, reflecting Iowa’s growing reputation on the recruiting circuit.
