The Bobcats’ football program is set for a significant infusion of experience as two graduate transfers join the squad for the upcoming campaign.
Graduate Transfers with Proven Starting Experience
Bruin Fleischmann arrives after a standout tenure at the Air Force Academy, where he started nine games in 2025 and all 12 in 2024. The tight end earned honorable‑mention All‑Mountain West honors in 2024 after recording 21 receptions for 370 yards and six touchdowns, a performance that also earned him the John Mackey tight end of the week award against Navy.
Alec Wills brings a different skill set to the defensive backfield. At Penn he started three of four games in 2025, logging 15 tackles and an interception, and he previously contributed 30 tackles with a pass breakup in 2024. Both players are graduates of prestigious institutions and are eager to continue their academic journeys at Montana State.
Coaching Insights and Roster Movements
Head coach Brent Vigen emphasized that the newcomers add depth and competition, particularly at cornerback, while also praising Fleischmann’s productivity at the Air Force Academy. Vigen also announced that sophomore linebacker Ryan Bowles will transition to defensive end for the 2026 season.
The roster adjustments include the departure of several younger players — freshman defensive back Hayden Gunlock, junior receiver Javonte King, freshman quarterback River Warren, and freshman offensive lineman Vaughn Wirkus — to make room for the new additions and the positional shift.
With a blend of veteran talent and fresh energy, Montana State looks to build on recent progress and contend strongly within its conference as the 2026 season approaches.
