Jaynice Stovall Returns to Holmes High as Head Coach, Aiming for First Winning Season in a Decade

The former Bulldogs star replaces Zuri Hill, bringing a storied playing career and coaching experience to a young roster hungry for success.

A Homecoming for a Local Legend

Holmes High School announced this week that Jaynice Stovall, a 2017 alumna who once dazzled the court as a point guard for the Bulldogs, will take over as head coach of the girls basketball program, replacing Zuri Hill who resigned in April.

Stovall’s playing résumé reads like a Hall of Fame highlight reel: she helped the team capture three straight 9th Region titles, amassed 1,371 points, 404 rebounds, 384 assists and 420 steals, and later led Vincennes University to a national steal title in the NJCAA.

Building on a Promising Foundation

The Lady Bulldogs finished last season with a 9‑13 record, featuring a single senior in Jayda Hill who led the team with 11.3 points per game, while eighth‑graders Brooklyn Brown and Aubrey Wilson contributed 7.7 and 6.7 points respectively, and freshman Lunden Scott added 6.8 points per game.

Junior Carlie Riley contributed 5.2 points per game, rounding out a diverse scoring distribution that reflects the team’s depth across multiple grades.

Stovall, who previously served as an assistant with the Bulldogs, returns to her alma mater with the explicit goal of ending a decade‑long stretch without a winning season and of shaping a young roster into a competitive unit.
