Freshman All-Americans Make Their Mark
The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association has announced its 2026 Freshman All‑America team, honoring a cohort of 34 standout first‑year players who have already begun to reshape expectations at their respective programs.
Among them, Texas infielder Anthony Pack Jr. emerges as a statistical anchor, batting .359 for the season with 11 home runs and 52 runs batted in. His speed has translated into a team‑best 20 stolen bases, the most by a Texas freshman since 2004, while his on‑base percentage sits at .511 and his conference average climbs to .400, a feat not achieved by a rookie in the SEC since 2016.
Pitcher Sam Cozart, also a freshman, has compiled a perfect 6‑0 record while adding nine saves, a combination that places him among the nation’s most dominant first‑year arms. His 0.69 WHIP and .132 opponent batting average top all Division I pitchers, and his 1.65 ERA ranks second nationally. In SEC competition, Cozart’s 1.01 ERA and 0.64 WHIP lead the conference.
The accolades extend beyond individual statistics; both players were selected to the Freshman All‑America squad by the NCBWA, underscoring the conference’s depth and the coaching staff’s ability to integrate fresh talent. Their performances have already sparked discussion about the program’s trajectory for the remainder of the season.
Veteran players such as Drew Stubbs, Jake Mangum, Alex Via and Jackson Flora, who have previously contributed to the team’s roster, now find themselves alongside a new generation poised to carry the program forward. The blend of experience and emerging talent suggests a promising outlook as the Longhorns navigate a demanding schedule.
