Macalester College clinched the MIAC playoff championship, earning the conference’s automatic berth to the NCAA Division III Baseball Championship. The Scots will open their regional campaign against the nation’s third‑ranked team, Wisconsin-Whitewater, at 11 a.m. on Friday, May 15, in Whitewater, Wisconsin.
A Historic Return to the National Stage
The upcoming contest marks the Scots’ first appearance in the NCAA tournament since 2017, when they last won the MIAC playoff championship and made their inaugural regional appearance. Since then, the program has built on that foundation, developing talent that now competes at the highest Division III level.
Wisconsin-Whitewater enters the regional as the defending national champion and a perennial powerhouse, currently holding the third spot in the country’s Division III rankings. Their presence guarantees a high‑stakes matchup, with both teams vying for the regional title that guarantees progression to the Super Regionals.
The Whitewater Regional field also includes Luther College and Bethany Lutheran College, each of which secured its spot through conference playoffs. The regional schedule runs from May 15 through May 17, after which the champion will advance to the Super Regionals set for May 22‑23.
Path to the National Finals
Should Macalester emerge victorious in Wisconsin, they will travel to the Super Regionals, where they will meet the champion of another regional bracket. The winners of the Super Regionals earn a place in the championship finals, scheduled for May 29 through June 4 in Eastlake, Ohio, a suburb of Cleveland.
The Scots’ journey reflects a broader resurgence of the program, driven by strategic recruiting, state‑of‑the‑art facilities, and a coaching staff that emphasizes both athletic excellence and academic integrity. Their participation not only elevates the college’s profile but also showcases the competitive depth of Division III baseball across the Midwest.
