Quentin Burrell Commits to Michigan, Shunning Rival Programs

The four-star recruit's decision reshapes the 2027 class and impacts Arizona State, Notre Dame, and Missouri

Four-star wide receiver Quentin Burrell, a standout at Mount Carmel High School in Illinois, announced his commitment to the University of Michigan on Wednesday, choosing the Wolverines over Arizona State, Missouri and Notre Dame.

A family connection that helped seal the deal

His sister, Kali Burrell, was a key figure on Michigan’s women’s soccer team from 2022 through 2025, giving the recruit a familiar campus presence that proved decisive.

The decision comes after two official visits to Ann Arbor and places Burrell at No. 57 in the SC Next 300 and No. 11 among the nation’s top wide receivers in the 2027 class.

Coach Kyle Whittingham, who has now secured seven pledges for the 2027 recruiting class, praised the addition, noting that Burrell joins quarterback Kamden Lopati, who flipped his commitment from Illinois in April.

The ripple effect of Burrell’s choice is already being felt. Arizona State, which had been courting four-star Nico Bland and remains in the mix for in-state prospect Zerek Sidney, now faces a setback in its receiver corps. Notre Dame, which has not signed a Mount Carmel player since linebacker Steve Filer in the 2008 cycle, must look elsewhere to rebuild its own pipeline. Missouri, which had chased Burrell since 2025, is left with only a single 2027 receiver commit.

Recruiting analysts say the commitments underscore Michigan’s growing momentum in the Midwest and could reshape the balance of power among the Big Ten and Power Five programs for the next recruiting cycle.
