The Daily Herald has released its 2026 All-Area boys soccer team, a tribute to the standout athletes who defined the Columbia region’s season despite the absence of any local clubs from the TSSAA state tournament. The list, compiled from performances across the area, underscores the depth of talent that persisted even when collective advancement to the championship stage remained out of reach.
Leading the recognition is Brendan Medina of Independence, who has been crowned the 2026 Boys Soccer Player of the Year. Medina’s senior campaign was nothing short of spectacular, as he recorded 20 goals and supplied five assists, a combination that placed him at the top of the local scoring charts and earned him the unanimous choice for the honor.
Player of the Year: Brendan Medina
Medina’s impact extended beyond raw numbers; his ability to find space in the final third, link play with midfield partners, and convert chances under pressure made him the focal point of every opposing defense. Coaches across the district noted that his work ethic and tactical intelligence set a benchmark for younger players aspiring to reach similar heights.
Other Offensive Standouts
Close behind Medina, Hudson Dickey from Richland emerged as the area’s most prolific scorer, tallying 27 goals and nine assists. His relentless drive and knack for striking from distance earned him comparisons to classic area legends. Pablo Cisneros of Columbia Academy added another layer of distinction by being named the DII-A District 3 Offensive Player of the Year, a testament to his 20-goal season and creative contributions.
Brad Hoffman of Lawrence County, while notching 17 goals, also proved versatile, chipping in two assists and often dropping deeper to orchestrate attacks. The midfield quartet of Luke Mullvain, Noah Moss, and Aidan Cathey further enriched the offensive narrative, each delivering double-digit goal or assist totals that illustrated the region’s balanced attack.
Defensive stability was anchored by Tai Zaghouani of Summit, whose leadership helped the Spartans record four shutouts, and by Andrew Mabry of Lawrence County, whose own defensive work contributed to six clean sheets while adding a rare goal. Ty McCormack of Richland served as the Raiders’ back-line anchor, guiding a unit that logged nine shutouts throughout the campaign.
Goalkeeper Kevin Delgado of Lawrence County turned heads by allowing just ten goals all season and posting six shutouts, a statistical rarity that highlighted his shot-stopping prowess. The collective defensive effort was complemented by the midfield’s dual role in both creating chances and protecting the back line.
Coach of the Year: Eric Bossman
Eric Bossman, also from Independence, received the Coach of the Year award for steering his squad through a highly competitive district schedule. His strategic adjustments, emphasis on discipline, and ability to maximize the talents of players like Medina and Mullvain were cited as key factors in the team’s resilience and overall success.
The recognition of these individuals reflects a broader narrative of perseverance and excellence that defines the Columbia soccer landscape. Even without a state-tournament berth, the area’s teams demonstrated competitive spirit, and the awardees embody the promise of future achievements. As the offseason begins, the spotlight remains on how these standout performances will influence recruitment, collegiate pathways, and the next generation of local talent.
