Michigan State has added six new scholarship commitments during the current official‑visit period, a move that has nudged its 2027 recruiting class to No. 40 nationally and No. 13 within the Big Ten.
A Recruiting Turning Point
The class, while still lacking elite blue‑chip talent, features only one four‑star prospect — Ohimai Ozolua — and nine of the 13 pledges sit inside the top 1,000 of the national rankings.
The Spartans’ recent on‑field record has been uneven, and recruits have struggled to find recent examples of sustained success to point to when making their decisions.
Pat Fitzgerald, now in his second full recruiting cycle, says the program is focused on assembling a roster through the development of high‑school talent rather than chasing marquee names.
The 2027 group marks the first time Fitzgerald and his staff will have overseen a class from start to finish, a contrast to the fluctuating results of the 2026 and 2025 classes, which finished 45th and 57th respectively.
