The Harvey High School board approved Marcus Jones as its new head football coach on June 8, marking the culmination of a whirlwind search that followed the unexpected resignation of longtime mentor Mick Mohner.
A Fresh Coaching Direction
Jones, a 2015 graduate of Riverside and a 2019 alumnus of Gannon University with a degree in criminal justice, returns to the region after stints as a student‑coach at Riverside and a two‑year tenure at Saline, Michigan. His most recent role was as dean of students at Perspective Academy in Beachwood, where he continues to balance educational leadership with his passion for the game.
Mohner, who will remain in his capacity as athletic director, praised Jones' deep connection with the team and his proven ability to develop talent, noting that the new coach brings both strategic acumen and a genuine love for the sport.
The transition comes as Harvey prepares to compete in the newly configured CVC Lake Division of the Chagrin Valley Conference, facing rivals such as Lakeside, Chardon, North, South, Madison and Lutheran West. The Red Raiders finished the previous season at 5‑5, graduating a senior class that left a lasting imprint on the program.
Beyond the field, Jones will continue his educational responsibilities, serving as dean of students at Perspective Academy while steering the football program toward a hopeful resurgence.
