The Northwestern Wildcats have quietly turned a corner, posting incremental gains each season under head coach David Braun.
A year ago the team posted a 7‑6 overall record, finishing 4‑5 in Big Ten play, and capped the campaign with a 34‑7 bowl victory over Central Michigan.
Running back Caleb Komolafe emerged as a workhorse, grinding out 941 yards and 11 touchdowns, while safety Robert Fitzgerald anchored the defense with a team‑high 114 tackles.
A program on the rise
The momentum carries into 2026, with the Wildcats scheduled to open the season against South Dakota State before a marquee showdown with Penn State on Friday, October 2, at Ryan Field.
The game will be carried nationally on Fox, underscoring the growing visibility of the program.
Coach David Braun, now in his fourth year at the helm, will meet his old acquaintance James Franklin, who continues to guide the Nittany Lions, while Penn State’s quarterback Drew Allar is expected to lead the offense.
Beyond the Penn State clash, the 2026 slate also includes contests against Colorado and a host of other Big Ten rivals, promising a demanding but exciting schedule.
