Three members of the Southwestern Oklahoma State University baseball squad have been selected to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District team, a distinction that highlights both athletic prowess and scholarly achievement.
Zach Makarewich, Kotaro Wakui and Rusty Wortman earned the honor after meeting the CSC’s rigorous standards, which require a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.50 and substantial playing time, such as appearing in at least 90 % of a team’s contests or starting a majority of games.
The trio joins a small group of peers who have previously received the accolade, marking the first occasion that all three have been recognized in the same season.
Selection criteria also consider positional demands; pitchers must log a minimum of 17 appearances or 25 innings, while position players must meet the overall participation thresholds.
A Milestone for the Program
For the university, the recognitions signal a rising profile in collegiate baseball, suggesting that the program’s blend of competitive play and academic rigor is attracting talent capable of excelling on both fronts.
Fans and alumni are expected to celebrate the achievement at upcoming games, where the players will be honored during pre-game ceremonies that highlight the importance of academic excellence in sports.
