Nic Abraham, a right‑handed pitcher who spent two years in the Tennessee Volunteers rotation, announced that he will test the transfer portal after a season that saw him log 34.2 innings with a 4.15 earned run average.
Although he had signaled intentions to remain in Knoxville for his junior campaign, the decision to explore other programs came after the Volunteers’ pitching staff underwent a reshuffle, with longtime coach Josh Reynolds exiting and former East Carolina assistant Austin Knight stepping in.
Abraham’s numbers also included 20 strikeouts against seven walks, while his 7.59 ERA in SEC play highlighted both promise and inconsistency. The 20‑year‑old’s departure marks the fourth pitcher from the Vols to enter the portal this cycle.
A Wave of Departures
His exit is part of a larger exodus, as fifteen Volunteers have now entered the portal, including four pitchers and five freshmen. Alongside Abraham, relievers Brayden Krenzel and Taylor Tracey, as well as freshman Ari Bethea, have also filed paperwork to leave.
The roster turnover does not end with departures; the coaching staff has already begun replenishing the mound. Coach Josh Elander secured commitments from Mercer two‑way standout Braydon Kersey and Northwestern State right‑hander Brody Trosclair, both of whom will join the program next season.
