UCLA Secures Commitment from Elite Offensive Tackle
UCLA’s 2027 recruiting class has already positioned itself among the nation’s elite, sitting ninth overall with 21 pledges and four offensive linemen among the commitments.
The latest addition is Thurman Lyles III, a 6‑foot‑5, 280‑pound tackle from Grant Union High School in Sacramento, who announced his decision after a weekend visit to Westwood.
Lyles narrowed his choices to UCLA, Washington State, Tennessee, USC, Idaho and New Mexico, ultimately favoring the Bruins after weighing the academic reputation and coaching staff.
Although his star rating sits at three, analysts view him as a developmental prospect whose physical frame and athleticism could translate into a future starter, noting his multi-sport background in basketball and track.
A Developmental Project with High Upside
Coaches see Lyles as a player who can grow into a reliable starter over the next few years, especially as the program leans on his size and potential rather than immediate star power.
The commitment also reflects UCLA’s broader strategy of targeting under-recruited talent that can be shaped within the system, a approach that aligns with the team’s need for depth at offensive tackle in a class where the 2026 pool is relatively thin.
