Arizona's baseball program is undergoing a notable overhaul, with recent announcements signaling a shift in both coaching philosophy and player composition. The Wildcats have announced the addition of Daniel Molinari as their new catching coach, bringing a professional background and a reputation for defensive development.
A new catching coach brings professional pedigree
Molinari, who most recently served as an assistant at Saint Mary's College, will now guide the Wildcats' catchers. His career includes stints in professional baseball where he refined a reputation for shaping disciplined, fundamentals‑driven backstops.
The roster moves also reflect an aggressive use of the NCAA transfer portal, with twelve athletes currently exploring new destinations. Among them are right‑handed pitchers Corey Kling and Collin McKinney, both of whom logged substantial innings for Arizona in the 2026 season.
Kling posted a 4.28 ERA across 20 appearances, while McKinney struggled with a 6.27 ERA in 17 outings, underscoring the varied impact of the portal exodus.
Fresh arm for the future
Adding to the mix, junior college pitcher Collin Cobb has committed to the Wildcats for the 2027 campaign. Cobb brings a strong track record, boasting a 2.18 ERA and 119 strikeouts over 70.1 innings at the junior college level.
Long‑standing figures Jack Meggs and Toby DeMello are expected to integrate these changes as the program seeks to rebuild competitiveness while leveraging experienced mentors and promising newcomers.
