The American Baseball Coaches Association has announced its All‑East Region teams, and West Virginia University celebrates a sweep as four of its standout athletes earn spots on the first or second squads.
Standout Performances
Maxx Yehl, a right‑hander who anchors the Mountaineers’ rotation, heads the list on the first team. He boasts a 9‑2 record, a 2.10 earned‑run average and 105 strikeouts over 90 innings, and his performance has propelled him to the final round of consideration for the national Pitcher of the Year award.
Joining him on the second team, Chansen Cole has compiled a 10‑1 record with a 2.85 ERA and 106 strikeouts in 94.2 innings, marking the first ten‑win season for a WVU pitcher since 2003.
Outfielder Gavin Kelly also earns a second‑team nod after delivering a .384 batting average this season, accompanied by 17 home runs and 57 runs batted in, underscoring his all‑around offensive impact.
Relief pitcher Ian Korn rounds out the Mountaineers’ honorees with a 3.07 ERA across 22 appearances, 19 of which came out of the bullpen, reflecting his reliability in high‑leverage situations.
The quartet’s recognition not only highlights individual excellence but also signals the program’s growing competitiveness within the Big 12, positioning West Virginia for a strong finish to the season and potential postseason accolades.
