Aysha Peter Returns Home to Lead Alaska Nanooks Women’s Basketball

The Fairbanks native brings two seasons of collegiate experience and a proven scoring record to the University of Alaska.

Homecoming for a Rising Star

Aysha Peter, a Fairbanks native, has rejoined the Alaska Nanooks women's basketball program after two productive seasons at Bellevue College. The 5‑9 shooting guard returns with a track record that includes a Mid‑Alaska Conference MVP award, more than 1,000 career high school points, and a reputation as a reliable scorer.

Head coach Michael Ricks praised Peter’s experience, stating that her time in the Northwest Athletic Conference has equipped her with the versatility and confidence needed to compete at the Division I level. “She brings a proven scoring threat and a winning mindset,” Ricks said.

Peter’s collegiate stats reflect a steady progression: as a freshman she averaged 13.4 points and 4.2 rebounds, earning Freshman of the Year and second‑team honors, and as a sophomore she posted 11.2 points and 4.1 rebounds while being named to the first team. She capped her stint with 17 points per game over her final eight contests, a performance that has the coaching staff eager to integrate her into the lineup.

Beyond the numbers, Peter expressed genuine excitement about returning home. “I’m thrilled to be back in Fairbanks, playing in front of friends and family,” she said, underscoring the personal significance of the move.

The Alaska Nanooks are not done adding talent; additional signings will be announced later this week, promising further depth as the program looks to build on recent progress.
