Chaos on the Diamond: Parents Clash at a Youth Baseball Game
On the afternoon of May 8, a youth baseball game at a middle school in North Providence turned chaotic when a disagreement between two players' parents escalated into a physical confrontation.
Witnesses said the dispute quickly devolved into a flurry of punches and shouted profanities, with several adults joining the fray as children looked on from the sidelines.
One mother, Nicole Elijerai, recounted being struck, kicked and even spat upon while her children watched, describing the scene as terrifying, especially because her eldest daughter, who has cerebral palsy, attempted to intervene and ended up on the ground with a broken foot.
Police later confirmed that three participants were taken into custody, including two parents and the 15‑year‑old son of one of the suspects; one of the adults was released on personal recognizance after posting a $1,500 bond.
The incident prompted an immediate referral to the Department of Children, Youth and Families, which opened a review given the involvement of a minor and the potential for further trauma.
Investigators reviewed school surveillance and body‑worn camera footage, but the altercation itself was not captured, leading officers to appeal to the public for any amateur video that might shed light on the assault, while urging that such material be submitted directly to authorities rather than posted online.
