Latvian Sharpshooter Ricards Aizpurs Commits to TCU
TCU men's basketball has secured a commitment from Latvian guard Ricards Aizpurs, who will join the program for the 2026‑27 season. The 6‑foot‑6 wing brings a blend of size and shooting skill that attracted the Horned Frogs' coaching staff.
Aizpurs spent the previous season competing in Italy, where he honed his scoring instincts and helped Stella Azzurra, the club he represented, achieve notable results. His performances earned him a place on the senior roster and caught the eye of several collegiate programs.
Dominance in Italy and International Play
In the Italian U17 competition, Aizpurs posted an eye‑catching average of 33.6 points per game, a statistic that underscores his ability to dominate games single‑handedly. He also contributed 18 points per contest at the U18 level while still a 16‑year‑old, highlighting his maturity beyond his years.
International experience adds another layer to his profile. At the FIBA U16 EuroBasket 2024, Aizpurs averaged 18.1 points, 3.4 rebounds and 2.4 assists for Latvia, demonstrating that his game translates to the European stage.
A Fresh Wave of Talent for the Horned Frogs
The Horned Frogs will not be relying on Aizpurs alone. The 2026‑27 class also welcomes Luke Bamgboye, Sam Fleming, Ryan Hunt, Trent Lincoln, Gavin Murphy, Miloš Šojić, Gavin Sykes and DJ Thomas, each of whom brings distinct skills that could reshape the team's dynamics.
Coach Andy Storlie expressed confidence that the incoming group will bolster the program's depth and competitiveness, noting that the blend of European shooting prowess and domestic talent creates a balanced roster.
