Cullen Smith Shines as Hitter of the Week
Prep Baseball Iowa has announced its Hitter of the Week for Week 3 of the 2026 high school season, and the honor goes to Ames outfielder Cullen Smith.
Smith’s performance was nothing short of spectacular, as he compiled nine hits in 13 at‑bats, including a home run, while crossing the plate 12 times and driving in 15 runs.
He remained flawless at the plate, striking out zero times and drawing five walks, which helped him maintain a .692 batting average and an on‑base percentage that placed him among the league’s most consistent hitters.
Beyond the numbers, Smith’s speed proved decisive; he was hit by a pitch and stole seven bases, underscoring his all‑around threat.
Coach Tyler Cropley, who submitted the nomination, praised the senior’s work ethic and poise under pressure, noting that the team’s recent surge can be traced in part to Smith’s leadership.
The recognition reflects not only individual excellence but also the growing depth of talent in Iowa’s high school baseball ranks, a trend that Prep Baseball Iowa hopes to continue highlighting throughout the season.
