Adrianna Smith, a senior forward for the University of Maine women's basketball team, has been selected as the state's representative for the America East's Woman of the Year award, a honor that celebrates athletic excellence, academic distinction and community leadership.
A Trailblazer on and off the Court
On the hardwood, Smith has rewritten the conference record books by becoming the first student‑athlete in America East history to surpass 1,000 points, 1,000 rebounds and 400 assists in a career. Her performance has earned her three All‑Conference First Team selections, two Player of the Year titles and a place on the league's all‑defensive team in 2026.
Academically, she graduated with a degree in Kinesiology & Physical Education, maintaining a 3.79 GPA, and will complete a Master's in Business Administration with a 3.93 postgraduate GPA. Over seven semesters she made the Dean's List and was awarded the Presidential Scholar distinction twice.
During her undergraduate years she completed 150 observational hours at County Physical Therapy, an experience that sharpened her ambition to become a physical therapist. The internship has reinforced her plan to blend a professional basketball career with a future in health care.
After graduation, Smith signed a professional contract with the Dandenong Rangers of Australia's NBL1, bringing her talents to the international stage while she continues to prepare for a career in physical therapy.
