The University of Virginia’s baseball program announced the addition of Serigne Sarré, a left‑handed pitcher who transferred from Mount St. Mary’s. Sarré arrives with a reputation for generating strikeouts at a high rate and for maintaining elite spin metrics on his secondary pitches.
A Left‑Handed Boost for the Rotation
During his first two seasons in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference, Sarré was repeatedly recognized on the All‑Metro team and topped the league in strikeouts both years. He routinely logged at least 86 strikeouts per season, and opponents managed only a .264 batting average against him.
His repertoire includes a fastball, curveball, changeup and slider, giving the Cavaliers a versatile arm that can be deployed in multiple game situations. The coaching staff highlighted his ability to keep hitters off balance as a key factor in expanding the team’s pitching depth.
Sarré becomes the third left‑hander added to the roster this offseason, a move that addresses a shortage of southpaws that was exposed during the 2026 Hattiesburg Regional. Virginia’s pitching staff struggled to contain opposing offenses that year, and the front office believes that Sarré’s experience and track record can help shift that narrative.
The Cavaliers are targeting a more competitive postseason run, aiming to advance further than the regional round they fell short of last year. With Sarré slotted into the rotation, the team hopes to improve its overall earned‑run average and give its hitters more breathing room.
