A Familiar Reunion
Tennessee has bolstered its transfer portal class with the addition of Christian Fermin, a 6‑foot‑10 forward who spent three seasons at Virginia Commonwealth University. The move reunites him with former VCU teammate Terrence Hill Jr., who is already on the Volunteers roster.
Fermin’s college career has been defined by his presence in the paint. During the 2024‑25 season he averaged 4.6 points and 3.1 rebounds per game while ranking second on the team with 47 blocks. His shot‑blocking ability was on display in standout performances against Loyola, Boston College and La Salle, and a sophomore year that saw him post 5.2 points, 4.0 rebounds and a team‑high 55 blocks.
Frontcourt Evolution Under Coach Barnes
Coach Rick Barnes sees the new frontcourt as a strategic upgrade. Alongside transfers Miles Rubin and Braedan Lue, Fermin adds size and defensive versatility, while only DeWayne Brown II returns from the previous season’s roster. Barnes emphasized that the group’s development is already shaping a more balanced attack.
Although the Volunteers have prioritized perimeter scoring in their offseason overhaul, the addition of a player who can protect the rim provides a complementary dimension. Barnes hinted at the possibility of further additions, but indicated that the current roster is already poised to contend for a strong season.
