Playoff Highlights
York High School opened the Class B South first‑round series with a 5‑4 victory over Wells, a game that swung in the sixth inning when Dom Grover doubled and later scored on Sam Jancovic’s RBI single. Alex Dimino added an infield hit that drove in a run, while Robbie Hanscom delivered a solid seven‑inning outing, allowing four runs and earning the win. Orrin Culp Dechant sparked a two‑run third inning with a key single, and the York lineup also featured contributions from Nick Mirabello, Henry Ober and the rest of the squad.
Wells had taken an early 3‑0 lead in the first inning, but York’s rally was anchored by the timely hits of Grover and Dimino, and the defense held steady under Hanscom’s pitching. The win kept York’s postseason hopes alive and underscored the team’s depth, with every player from the starting rotation to the bench seeing action.
In a separate baseball matchup, Scarborough edged Marshwood 3‑2 in a Class A South first‑round contest. Pitcher Michael Sbrizza struck out seven batters over 6.2 innings, while Jack Eardley and Sam Gennaro delivered RBI singles in the seventh to seal the win. Dominic Galuppo also contributed at the plate, and the team’s defensive effort kept Marshwood’s comeback attempts at bay.
Falmouth’s girls lacrosse team rolled past Marshwood 16‑12 in a high‑scoring Class A first‑round game. Maddy Poitras led the way with seven goals, while Tiegan Boisvert added two goals and an assist. Jolie Folger, Ella Yokota and Maeve Long helped Marshwood’s attack, but Falmouth’s balanced scoring secured the victory. Leigh Twohig was among the contributors for Falmouth, rounding out a competitive contest.
