Four-star running back Nigel Newkirk, a 2027 recruit from Gainesville, Georgia, has pledged to join the Alabama Crimson Tide, ending a highly anticipated recruiting saga that had drawn attention from coast to coast.

Coach Robert Gillespie, who leads Alabama’s running back room, pursued Newkirk with a relentless, relationship‑focused strategy. Over weeks, he sent countless texts, highlighting the program’s culture and the chance for immediate playing time.
Newkirk’s mother, Menyuna Cooper, has repeatedly praised the transparency and support she felt from the Alabama staff, saying their open communication helped her son see a clear path forward both on the field and in the classroom.
At Gainesville High School, Newkirk has posted eye‑catching numbers: 1,496 rushing yards and 20 touchdowns as a junior, plus a transfer from Ola High School after two seasons. His average of more than eight yards per touch underscores a blend of speed and vision that has made him a standout on the national radar.
The commitment also meant Newkirk called off official visits to LSU, Michigan and Ohio State, signaling a decisive move toward Tuscaloosa.
