Eagles Soar Toward State Crown
The Bermudian Springs baseball team has fought its way to the PIAA championship game, a feat not achieved since 2010. Coach Jeff Carpenter says this season feels different, noting a new edge that has kept the squad focused despite setbacks.
At the heart of the run is ace pitcher Branson Diller, who enters the final with an 11‑0 record and a 0.43 ERA. The senior‑driven batting order features Lane Hubbard, Brayden Heller and Teegan Byers, who together have produced a .429 average for Heller, 23 stolen bases for Hubbard, and 21 RBI for Byers. Heller also leads the team with a .521 on‑base percentage, while six players are batting above .300.
The Eagles have shown a knack for late‑inning heroics, erasing deficits in the seventh inning in two straight PIAA victories. Their energy is contagious, often sparking a cascade of hits that fuels further rallies.
The toughest tests came against Greencastle‑Antrim and Neumann‑Goretti. A loss to Greencastle‑Antrim served as a reality check, but the team answered with a comeback win in the quarterfinals. After falling in the District 3 championship to Trinity, the squad kept playing past graduation on June 3, embracing the moment as the culmination of their journey.
Coach Carpenter’s final message to the team is simple: stay loose, stay motivated, and finish what they started. The Eagles are poised to translate their resilience into a state title.
