JT Ritchie of Henry Clay earns top player honors after guiding his squad to a district championship with stellar pitching and hitting

A Season of Recognition

The Lexington Herald-Leader and Kentucky.com announced the 2026 All-City Baseball Team, a roster compiled by high school coaches who evaluated performances across the region and honored the standout athletes who defined the season.

JT Ritchie of Henry Clay was selected as the Player of the Year, capping a season in which he posted a 6‑1 record with a 1.65 ERA on the mound and batted .347 with 43 hits at the plate.

His contributions helped Henry Clay capture the 42nd District championship, a milestone that underscored the team’s depth and resilience.

The First Team features standouts from Henry Clay, Lexington Christian, Lexington Catholic, Sayre, Lafayette, Frederick Douglass and other programs, each earning points from a coach‑driven ranking system.

Voting rules prohibited coaches from selecting their own players, and point values were assigned to differentiate the First and Second Teams; the Second Team included an extra member due to a tie.

Among the recognized athletes are Sam Pearson, Brady Wasik, Gary Gibson, Banks Heinrich, Turner Sparks, Eamon Hughes, Jacob Carpenter, Gabe Wright and Joseph Seigler, whose performances highlighted a competitive season.
