Rams Make History with Regional Triumph
The Harbor Springs Rams soccer team clinched the regional championship on June 9, ending a 23‑year title drought and securing a berth in the state semifinals. The victory, celebrated by players, families and local supporters, marks the first regional crown for the program since 2003.
Senior captain Sophie Barnadyn emerged as the game’s hero, striking the winning goal in the final minutes to seal a 2‑1 victory over their rivals. Goalkeeper Lillian McShannock was equally pivotal, making a series of high‑pressure saves that kept the Rams ahead.
Head coach Aaron Riley praised the collective effort, highlighting the team’s dedication, talent and the unwavering support of the community. “This win is a testament to what we can achieve together,” Riley said, also acknowledging assistant coach Shallon Grawey for her contributions.
Road to the State Championship
The Rams will now travel to Michigan State University for the state championship match scheduled for June 12. Their opponents, the winners of the other regional bracket, await a clash that promises to showcase the team’s depth and resilience.
Players from every grade level — freshmen, sophomores, juniors and seniors — have come together under the guidance of Riley and Grawey, forming a cohesive unit that blends youthful energy with seasoned leadership.
