A Historic Run Continues
Buchholz baseball has once again punched its ticket to the FHSAA Final Four, marking the third straight year the program has reached the semifinals. The achievement underscores a sustained culture of excellence that has become a hallmark of the program.
The latest milestone came after a gritty 10‑6 victory over top‑seeded Pace, a game that stretched into the night and was played on a slick, rain‑soaked field. Remarkably, Buchholz recorded zero errors despite the challenging conditions, highlighting the team’s focus and discipline.
Facing Martin County in the State Semifinal
Next up, the team will meet Martin County on Friday, May 15, at Hammond Stadium in Fort Myers. Martin County arrived in the final with a dramatic comeback win of its own, setting the stage for a compelling clash of rising contenders.
A Pitching Rotation That Stands Out
At the heart of Buchholz’s success is a deep and talented pitching staff. Reed Thomas leads the rotation with an 8‑0 record and a 0.82 ERA, positioning him among the state’s most dominant arms. Complementing him are Aidan Kastensmidt, Coen Lafler, and Dion Wilburn, each bringing a blend of velocity and control that has made opposing hitters uneasy.
Coach Chris Malphurs, who took over the program amid a slow start to the season, has praised the pitchers’ ability to adapt and execute under pressure. “We have the confidence and skill to win it all,” he said, emphasizing the team’s belief that a first state championship is within reach.
Beyond the mound, the squad’s resilience has been evident in every game. After an uneven beginning to the campaign, the players rallied around a new coaching philosophy, tightening their defense and sharpening their offensive approach. The result has been a steady climb toward the top of the state rankings.
