The University of Iowa women's basketball program is preparing for the 2026‑27 season with a wave of fresh talent that could reshape its outlook. Six newcomers are set to join the roster, bringing a mix of domestic transfers and international prospects.
A Dual‑Continental Boost
Among the newest Hawkeyes is Bria Medina, a standout transfer from Knox College in Illinois. Medina averaged 23.6 points per game during her junior season, the second‑most in Division III women's basketball, and earned a spot on the NCAA DIII Region 9 First Team. She also recorded 5.3 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 2.7 steals per game, becoming the first player in Knox College history to receive that regional honor and the Midwest Conference Player of the Year.
Head coach Jan Jensen expressed excitement about Medina's energy, gratitude and work ethic, noting that her scoring ability and defensive presence will add a new dimension to the backcourt. Jensen highlighted that Medina's arrival complements the existing group of guards, including Dani Carnegie and Jocelyn Faison, as well as Oklahoma State transfer Amari Whiting.
The Hawkeyes are also welcoming Ella Strömdahl, a Swedish forward who becomes the program's first player from Sweden. Strömdahl developed with the RIG Luleå Swedish academy and represented Sweden at the under‑16 and under‑18 levels. In her last season she averaged 6.5 points and 2.9 rebounds per game, showcasing a versatile skill set and a reliable shooting touch.
Coach Jensen praised Strömdahl's potential and ability to stretch the floor, stating that her international experience will enrich the team's dynamics. She joins fellow freshman McKenna Woliczko, a five‑star prospect, in a highly anticipated freshman class.
