Ajai Dhadwal to Lead Team USA at FIH Hockey Nation’s Cup

Veteran coach brings decades of experience to South Africa tournament

Ajai Dhadwal, a longtime assistant coach with the Rutgers field hockey program, has earned a spot on the United States roster for the forthcoming FIH Hockey Nation's Cup, a milestone that underscores his dual role as player and mentor.

The tournament is scheduled to unfold in Cape Town, South Africa, between June 11 and June 20, gathering some of the world’s top national squads in a high‑stakes battle for continental supremacy.

Dhadwal arrives with 146 international caps and a medal haul of 13, among which four are gold, a testament to his durability and impact on the senior squad over more than a decade of competition.

His hockey résumé includes stints at the Pan Am Cup and a series of other international tournaments, experiences that have honed his tactical acumen and leadership qualities on and off the pitch.

A veteran’s perspective

Now back on the Rutgers staff after a stint that began in 2017 and a return in 2024, Dhadwal will blend his playing experience with coaching responsibilities, offering younger teammates a living example of what it means to compete at the highest level.
