Summer Outreach Highlights
The Grand Rapids Griffins Youth Foundation, the charitable arm of the AHL hockey team, has announced a series of summer events aimed at giving back to the West Michigan community.
On August 19, the organization will stage its annual Golf Classic at American Dunes Golf Club, raising money for the families of fallen and injured U.S. service members through its partnership with Folds of Honor, a nonprofit that has awarded more than $244 million in scholarships to over 52,000 recipients since 2007.
Later in July and August, two youth hockey camps will open their doors to children aged six to fourteen. Under the guidance of Griffins forward Dominik Shine, the camps provide instruction, equipment and daily lunch, creating a fun and safe environment for young players.
Safety and Support Initiatives
The foundation will hold two bike helmet giveaways on July 13 and 15 at library locations in Grand Rapids and Grand Haven. Part of the “Put A Lid On It!” safety program, the events will distribute free helmets and t‑shirts to children aged one to twelve, reinforcing the importance of protective gear.
Beyond these activities, the foundation promotes academic excellence and healthy lifestyles for more than 450 boys and girls, offering co‑ed hockey, a girls‑only division, a learn‑to‑skate program, and a sled hockey team for children with physical disabilities.
