Ty Barclay Returns to Emporia State as Assistant Baseball Coach

A familiar face brings playing pedigree and coaching experience back to the Hornets

Ty Barclay, a former Emporia State University baseball standout, has rejoined the university as an assistant coach for the Hornets' baseball program.

A playing pedigree that shaped a coaching vision

Barclay earned All‑Jayhawk Conference honors at Garden City Community College before transferring to Emporia State, where he started 33 of 38 games and posted a .317 batting average with a .404 on‑base percentage in 2019. He was named Best Teammate and Team Captain during a COVID‑shortened 2020 season, and he helped lead the Hornets to tournament appearances that highlighted his leadership on the field.

During his graduate‑transfer year at the University of Mary, Barclay contributed to the Marauders' run to the NSIC Tournament title, further cementing his reputation as a clutch performer in high‑stakes games.

His coaching résumé includes four years as an assistant at UMary from 2022 through 2025, stints with the Great Lake Canadians and the Madan Chiefs, and a leadership role with the Sylvan Lake Gulls, where he honed his approach to player development and strategic planning.

Before returning to Emporia State, he also served as an assistant coach at Missouri Southern State University, where the Lions posted a 34‑19 record during his tenure.

Off the field, personal connections and academic background

Barclay is married to Cassidy Beem, a former Emporia State softball player, and holds a bachelor's degree in communication from Emporia State and a master's in business administration from the University of Mary.

The university hopes his blend of playing experience, coaching acumen, and deep ties to the Hornets community will elevate the program as it looks ahead to the upcoming season.
