The American Conference announced that sophomore outfielder Jason Wachs of Tulane University has been selected as its Weekly Player of the Week, recognizing a series of offensive explosions that have propelled the Green Wave in the latter stretch of the season.
Wachs, a native of Pembroke Pines, Florida, batted .500 over a four‑game stretch, delivering seven hits that included two home runs and nine runs batted in. He reached base safely in three of the four contests and scored multiple runs in each game, underscoring his ability to drive the offense forward.
Season Context
His impact was evident early in the week, when he smashed a two‑run homer on the road against LSU, and later in a conference matchup against USF where he logged four hits, four runs, a double, a homer, six RBIs and three walks. Two of his hits produced game‑winning RBIs, including a three‑run blast that sealed a victory.
The recognition marks the first time Wachs has received the league’s player‑of‑the‑week award, though it is the fourth such honor for him across the past two seasons. Tulane’s program has been celebrated by the conference nine times this year alone and 18 times over the last two seasons, reflecting a sustained pattern of excellence.
Looking ahead, the Green Wave are set to host a pivotal series against Rice University from May 14‑16. The upcoming matchups could further shape the team’s postseason outlook and provide additional opportunities for Wachs to extend his hot streak.
