Max McCormick, captain and forward for the Coachella Valley Firebirds, announced his retirement after a 12‑year professional career. The move comes as the franchise prepares to celebrate his contributions during the 2026‑27 season.
A legacy on the ice
McCormick finishes as the team’s all‑time leader in goals with 67 and ranks second in points with 140. He was instrumental in guiding the Firebirds to back‑to‑back Western Conference Championships and held the single‑season records for goals (32) and points (67).
His NHL debut arrived on Oct. 25, 2015 with the Ottawa Senators against the Arizona Coyotes. After missing the entire 2025‑26 season due to hip surgery, he was recognized with the American Hockey League’s IOA/American Specialty Man of the Year award for his community work.
The Firebirds will honor McCormick in a special ceremony at a home game next season, highlighting his impact on and off the ice.
Honoring a hometown hero
Beyond his on‑ice achievements, McCormick’s dedication to community service has set a standard for teammates and fans alike, ensuring his influence will be felt long after his final shift.
