Louisiana Sports Writers Association Announces 2026 Class 5A Honorees
The Louisiana Sports Writers Association unveiled its 2026 Class 5A Coach of the Year awards, naming Allison Frye of Pineville High and Chris Schexnaydre of Dutchtown High as the recipients for their remarkable leadership.
Frye steered the Pineville Lady Eagles to a state softball championship, the program’s first title in nearly three decades, while Schexnaydre guided the Dutchtown Tigers baseball team to a runner‑up finish, ending a 17‑year title drought.
Championship Milestones
The awards also spotlighted standout athletes who helped drive these historic achievements, underscoring the depth of talent across Louisiana high school sports.
Outstanding Player Honors
Evie West of West Monroe was selected as the Most Outstanding Player for softball, posting a .505 batting average, 19 home runs and 60 RBIs, while also going 18‑4 with a 3.53 ERA in the circle. Koa Romero of Hahnville earned the same distinction for baseball, finishing 6‑2 with a 1.15 ERA and hitting .433 with 10 home runs and 42 RBIs.
Together, these recognitions celebrate both team breakthroughs and individual excellence, reinforcing the growing prominence of Louisiana’s high school athletic programs.
