The Roxana Shells baseball team saw its season end in a heartbreaking 2‑1 loss to Williamsville in a Class 2A sectional semifinal, a game that left the senior‑laden squad just shy of a championship.
Finishing with a 24‑9 record, the Shells posted the second‑most victories in school history, a testament to a campaign that combined offensive firepower with a dominant pitching rotation.
Leadership Defined by Seniors
Coach Jerry Wheaton praised the departing seniors — Max Autry, Dalton Carriker, Keelan Crawford, Mason Crump, Sean Maberry and Lyndon Thies — for their leadership and the lasting imprint they left on the program.
The senior class also anchored a pitching staff that featured Carriker, Crump and Bradley Herrin, each contributing key performances that kept the team competitive throughout the year.
Carriker opened the season with 12 starts, posting a 4‑3 record and a 1.58 ERA, while Crump set a new Roxana record with 247 career strikeouts. Herrin, a junior, went 3‑1 with a 1.58 ERA, and freshman Logan Cox added 22 innings of work, finishing 4‑1 with a 1.59 ERA.
Looking Ahead
Wheaton expressed optimism for the future, highlighting the potential of the junior group led by Nick Miles, and suggesting that the foundation laid by this senior class will fuel the next wave of success.
The community rallied around the team, celebrating a season that, despite its final outcome, reinforced the Shells’ reputation as a rising force in Illinois high school baseball.
