Kevin Schnall Takes the Helm of South Carolina Baseball

A championship pedigree brings new ambition to the Gamecocks

A New Chapter for the Gamecocks

Kevin Schnall has been appointed as the head baseball coach at the University of South Carolina, becoming the 33rd person to lead the program's baseball efforts. The university highlighted his extensive background and the promise he brings to the historic Gamecock tradition.

Schnall arrives after a two‑year stint as head coach at Coastal Carolina University, where he guided the Chanticleers to a national runner‑up finish in 2025 and a record‑setting 56‑win season. His tenure was marked by a suite of coaching accolades, including being named Baseball America’s College Coach of the Year, Perfect Game Coach of the Year, Sun Belt Conference Coach of the Year and ABCA/ATEC Atlantic Region Coach of the Year.

During that season he also achieved the distinction of being the only first‑year head coach to win his first eight NCAA Tournament games, and four of his players were selected in the 2025 Major League Baseball Draft. The combination of recruiting acumen and player development has positioned the program for a championship‑level future.

Before moving into coaching, Schnall enjoyed a standout playing career at his alma mater, earning Big South Conference Player of the Year honors in 1999 and becoming the program’s first NCBWA All‑American. He was later inducted into the George F. “Buddy” Sasser Athletics Hall of Fame in 2005. Off the field, he and his wife Megan raise two daughters, Sydney and Fallon, and a son, Jayden.

The university community looks forward to the next chapter, anticipating that Schnall’s championship‑caliber approach will translate into future titles for the Gamecocks.
